Silent Saturday (April 4, 2026)

If this year, for Holy week, you listened or read the different Bible verses that talk about each day, you’d find that each day varies in coverage.  For example, a podcast has been reading each days Scriptures and (Palm) Sunday was 9 minutes, Monday-5 minutes, Tuesday-30 minutes, Wednesday-3 minutes, (Maundy) Thursday-33 minutes, and (Good) Friday-45 minutes.

But today there is no reading.  On that Saturday between Good Friday, the day Jesus died, and Easter Sunday, the day He arose, Scripture is silent. Some call it “Silent” Saturday.

Though it’s not recorded in Scripture, I can only imagine what life and conversation was like among the disciples and followers of Christ who grieved the loss of One whom they loved and gave everything to follow…now what? The whispers around town and the unsurety of where to go from here.

I’ve been through seasons that have felt like a Silent Saturday. The waiting room of the unknown.  The path seemed clear to get here and then suddenly, all that once seemed clear, has gone sideways….this isn’t how it was supposed to be!  But in the quiet, His perfect plan was unfolding.  It didn’t look like the disciples were expecting and yet he was unfolding His plan, promise and purpose.

So on this Silent Saturday, I will cling to the hope of Your presence. I will take in the invitation to trust and hope in a God who is bigger than I am and can see the next chapter already.  That redemption is coming. That You can make the path clear…bring justice for what’s been broken…..and even take this ugly mess and make it beautiful in time.  I want to trust you in the storm and in the silence.  Lord, help me remember to trust and obey.

5 Good Things about Good Friday (4/3/2026)

1. I’m not good, but He is
“There is none righteous, no not one..” - Romans 3:10
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” – Rom. 3:23
“the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” – Rom. 6:23
“Indeed, under the law almost everything is purified with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins.” - Hebrews 9:22
“For if the blood of goats and bulls, and the sprinkling of defiled persons with the ashes of a heifer, sanctify for the purification of the flesh, how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God…” – Heb. 9:13-14

2. The torn veil
((Context: That once and for all sacrifice was a huge change in how we relate to God. See the Temple building itself had two parts…the Holy place where only priest could enter and the Holy of Holies where literally, ONLY the High Priest could enter and only once a year in order to offer sacrifices for the atonement of the nations sins. Separating these two sections was a thick curtain or veil. In the Holy of Holies was the ark of the covenant which symbolized the very presence of God and the curtain separated His holiness from the world’s great sinfulness.))
“And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice and yielded up his spirit. And behold, the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. And the earth shook, and the rocks were split.” - Matthew 27:50-51
“For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time.” - 1 Timothy 2:5-6

3. I am a new creation

“We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin. For one who has died has been set free from sin.” - Romans 6:6-7

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” - 2 Corinthians 5:17

4. I am given a mission
“All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation” - 2 Corinthians 5:18
“I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” - Galatians 2:20

5. I am not alone on this mission
“If you love me, you will keep my commandments. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.” - John 14:15-17
“These things I have spoken to you while I am still with you. But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.” - John 14:25-26

So how does this apply to you?

“what must I do to be saved?” And they said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved” - Acts 16:30-31

And to those who have believed and received, the journey is not over- you are sent!
